Mitul and Vivek shine as DLR1 comfortably defeated Mullingar1
It was a very important game for DLR1 to get to winning ways against a confident Mullingar side who were coming off a victory against Knockharley the previous week. Arjun won the toss and elected to bat first and soon DLR were in trouble at 13-2 with both the openers Srikanth and Ramji back in the hut. Alex and Vivek then combined to forge a crucial partnership of 49 runs with both batsman looking at ease on a tricky pitch against a decent Mullingar attack. The partnership was broken when Alex was taken at covers for a well-made 23(37 balls,1*4,1*6). Soon after, Arjun was out to a wrong umpiring decision and that triggered another batting collapse as DLR was reduced to 70 for 6 in 24 overs with the set batsman Vivek for 27(43 balls, 2*4) also dismissed. Mitul held one end brilliantly with some skilful batting however DLR kept losing wickets at the other end. Sandeep (7) and Renjith(15) made notable contributions as DLR1 bundled out for 137 in 41 overs with Mitul top scoring with a fluent 35(56 balls,3*4,1*6)
DLR1 were still in with a chance to defend the score considering the tricky batting conditions in Shanganagh park. Renjith Started brilliantly again by removing the dangerous Woody O,Neill in the first over of the innings. However Renjith couldn’t continue bowling due to a finger injury. Mullingar recovered after an early loss to reach 45 for the loss of just 1 wicket by the end of 10 overs. Introduction of spin saw Rob Delaney fall to M.Javed with Mitul taking a tremendous catch at deep mid-wicket. Mullingar lost another wicket to Abilash with Mitul again taking a sharp catch at second slip to dismiss Daragh Ryan (27,29 balls ,2*4,2*6). Some tight bowling followed with Mullingar quickly restricted to 54 for 5 with Abilash and M.Javed picking two wickets each. Introduction of Vivek and Mitul into the bowling attack ensured Mullingar never recovered and were quickly bowled out for 82 with some incredible bowling figures for DLR bowlers. Abilash (5-2-7-2) Vivek (4-0-7-3) and Mitul(6-3-9-2)
It was a very comfortable win for DLR1 at the end with strong all round performances from Mitul and Vivek. It was an important win to open the account in the points table and also ahead of a crucial game away at Knockharley coming next.
