Joshi and Khwaja stars in season first home match
It was Sunday afternoon with chilling temperature most of the time below 5 degrees Adding to that was the cold breeze coming from the Irish Sea. However it did not stop both the teams to take the field. This was the 1st home game for DLR in Shanganah Park this season. DLR 4 were taking on Clontarf 6, who were looking for seasons second win.
DLR won the Toss and Captain Muzammil elected to bat first. T.Hussain and N.Shah started the bowling for Clontarf where as Swapn Joshi and Suyash Vaidya took charge for DLR. With overcast seaming conditions Clontarf started well with the new ball and took two quick wickets dismissing Vaidya and Patel, while Joshi courageously held one end. Muzammil joined Joshi and provided much need partnership of 44 runs and DLR started to look settled but as it mostly has been the case with DLR, the good looking partnership broke when Muzzammil gave a simple catch at short covers. Legendary Vinu Jacob joined Joshi and then there was bit of spike in the run rate. Things again started looking great as the pair added quick 38. Joshi was adjudged LBW after a well made 37. Vinu continued the run flow from other end before getting out for 33. With some further contributions from T.Kurian, G.Srivastava, M.Rony, S.Soundarajan and VS.Kumar, DLR final score was 144 for 8.
Clontarf, with the confidence from their last win folded up their sleeves and took the ground to chase the target of 145. However Luqmaan Khwaja and Muzammil had their own plans to tackle Clontarf's batting, sending back two of their batsman in identical fashion. N. Shah who made quick 27 in the last Div 10 match against DLR 3 took charge and showed same kind of intentions. However, Joshi having seen him already last weekend got better of him supported by an excellent catch by Rajit Patel. Thereafter, Clontraf struggled to make runs and DLR kept on taking wickets at regular intervals. At one point Clontarf were 9 down for 89 runs in 32 overs, then S.Downes joined V.Vibhute and made some quick runs down the order. Finally, experienced Joshi was brought back into the attack and he broke the partnership of 23 runs with his second delivery of that over.
DLR scripted the win by 32 runs with debutante Khwaja picking 4 wickets followed by Joshi 2 wickets. Kurian, Rony and VS Kumar picked one wicket each and were well supported by Soundarajan and Patel. Vivu Jacob was at his best behind the wickets.
It was a very good match and at the end it was DLRCCC 4, who started their campaign with Emphatic win against Clontarf 6
