DLR-2 manage to win a close one
DLR2 started their 2019 journey at Shangnagh park on a hot Saturday afternoon. Swords won the toss and elected to bat. There was a light breeze coming from Irish sea and Mathew and Bison made full use of new ball and restricted Swords to score freely. In few minutes both the openers were out in pavilion with Binson and Mathew taking one wicket each. Soon after, Arjun and Nikhil converted a sharp run out and Swapn Joshi got one plumb in the very next ball. From the other end Jojo kept the pressure and removed another one. Swords never looked settled till then. After that there was a brief partnership of 49 runs between Sreekanth and Sandeep which took them to 102. Again with some brilliance on the field from Rahul, Alex and Nikhil, resulted in two more run outs. After that it was matter of time as Vivek and Medwin wrapped up Swords inning for 129.
With just 130 to chase in 45 overs DLR started with a bang with Medwin hitting the first ball almost to six. However with some very good bowling, Swords came back strongly and removed Medwin, Binson and Alex in quick succession. Vivek and Nikhil took charge and slowly started rebuilding. Nikhil got out after scoring 17 when DLR score was 44. Soon after, Sandeep was adjudged LBW even when ball hitting the thigh paid. With 5 down for 51, things started to look difficult for DLR. However, DLR were aware that with Arjun and Vivek still there the match is in DLRs favor. Duo added another 48 runs and things started to look better. Vivek got out after a well made 20 runs. It was an excellent innings under the circumstances and kept DLR always in the game. Arjun from the other end was hitting some fabulous shots and it looked like, he alone can finish the match but was running out of partners with only 4 wickets left. However, Rahul took off the pressure from Arjun and made quick 28 to see through the innings. DLR won by 4 wickets with 77 balls remaining. Arjun remained not out on 38.
All is well if it ends well, well played team!!!
