Ghanshyam Godara's all-round show secured seasons first win for DLR-3

Ok, Finally 6th of April arrived and DLRC Cricket Club have to play their first match for the season 2019.

Important season, because for the the first time there was no Dundrum or Cabinteely and to carry this prestigious honour I was captain for a side with 7 debuting players for DLR.

Nice lovely afternoon, DLR win the toss and decided to bowl first. Karthick and Santosh started the bowling attack well. We restricted the scoring but were unable to take the wickets initially until Una (international Irish women cricket team player) decided get her second opener run out....( so slow that it was 15th overs and only 35 runs on the board)... some times when we see a player like Una with high elbow, head over the ball and confident... have to respect that. Apart from her other players from clontarf were easy to manage with two excellent catches by our own Vignesh (Vikky)... finally Swapn got Una out just after completing her half century and score was around 122/8 and we are aiming to bundle them down under 130 before Tariq decided to score in big shots with strike rate of 141.... finally with some excellent bowling by Swapn, Santosh, Joseph, Karthick and GG we bundled them in 152 runs

That was an excellent effort by an almost new side with a world class keeper Ashwin. We were confident to chase that before reality bite us.

We decided to go with experience on the top to give some time to new players to calm their nerves down. Joseph agreed ( I never forced you Jose) to face the ball and I was second opener. All was going well with two new (almost new) ball bowler, some good swing but we were able to manage the scoring rate of 5.5 an over which was well above required run rate before Joseph Anandh was given LBW by neutral umpire. We were 30 on the board after 5 overs with plenty of batting to come. Ashwin struggled and edged to Keeper when 36 on the board...... Mr Ghanshyam arrived on the crease with tight shoulders.. took his time and we took score to 60s after that I tried to clear long on without success... got out on the team score 62.... Mr Vickers (good pace bowler claimed Rajit and Swapn quickly) and we were sliding towards defeat with 68/5 on the board... to make it interesting Vinu bhai got unlucky in trying to play his unnatural game .. we were 80/6... and hopes started to dim. Some where in the sky a star was giving us hope that Ghanshyam is there (his shoulders were relaxed to take the possibilities)... special mention to Vignesh, who struggled with the ball earlier showed us that why he is so important to the team... Vicky and GG kept on scoring slowly for next 4or 5 over before our own GG decided to take the things on his bat as scored 16 runs on a over of a international player (Laura ). Still Clontarf 5 denied him winning shot by bowling a wide for winning run ( I wish if you would have seen his winning expression)

Ghanshyam Godara was declared man of the match for his wonderful all-round performance.

In the end winning start for DLRC 3... we as a team agreed that we have to put more effort during the match.. BUT WE ARE VERY HAPPY AS A TEAM
